Talking Back

Reese <eyeing James while we are in the kitchen>: Let’s go to my room and lock the door.

Reese: <before going down for rest time>: Let’s read “The Monster at the End of This Book.

Me: Ok.

Reese: Actually, let’s read “The Frog Prince” because its longer and I don’t want to be locked in here with no books.

Reese: I’m princess Aurora and I don’t have milk in my breasts anymore.

Talking Back

Andrew: Reese, if you want me to read you stories, you have to lay down in your bed.

Reese: You can leave now.

<Whenever James begins to cry>

Reese: Hold on James!

I am so busted.

_______________________________________________________________

Reese: I’m making soup

Andrew: Oh really? What is in your soup?

Reese: Squirrels and people

Cause for concern?

Talking Back

Reese: I want to touch Miles’s bum bum

———————————————————————-

Me: Reese if you don’t stop drinking the bath water out of that cup I am going to take the cup away.

<starts drinking bath water straight from the tub>

Reese: Mama gonna take the tub away?

—————————————————————————

Me: <One morning, after watching Reese pick up something off the floor and eat it> Reese, what is in your mouth?

Reese: It’s probably a piece of my dinner.

—————————————————————————–

Reese: Are you ok, Jackie? <said to me in an ultra sympathetic/almost mocking voice, with head cocked to the side>

Talking Back

Reese: <After giving me a hug then running across the kitchen> I run away from the baby!

Reese: I need to watch some Elmo

Reese: <standing at the top of the stairs calling down to me>: Jackie! Jackie! Are you down there?

Reese: <to Daddy>: Put on your coat jackass.
We have no idea where she learned this. Honestly. We try really hard not to swear around Reese and that is not even a swear word of choice for us! She does have a book about a mouse and a donkey and in the book the donkey is referred to as a jackass, but when we read it we always call it a donkey. We are mystified.

Talking Back

Me: Reese you did such a good job with your dinner. That makes me so happy!

Reese: I feel pride
………………………………………………………………………………………………

Reese: We goin’ to Gammy an Grandpa’s house. I wear my necklace, my earrings and my ring.
……………………………………………………………………………………………..

Reese <to me, while I’m holding my cousin’s new baby>: That baby wants to get down!
……………………………………………………………………………………………..

Reese: Mama’s belly has a baby

Me: That’s right, it’s your little brother or sister.

Reese: I don’t like the baby.

Awesome.

Talking Back

Hearing Reese suddenly bust out in new sentences/phrases never, ever gets old. Sometimes we recognize them immediately as things we say often, other times we have no idea where they come from. Those are my favorite.

These are some gems that we have heard over the past few weeks.

Andrew: Reese, do you want a veggie burger for dinner?
Reese: How ’bout a bagel?
Note: She has probably had a bagel twice in her life, and I rarely have them in the house so this was pretty random.

Me: Those are Mama’s crutches.
Reese <in menacing voice> : REESIE’S CRUTCHES!!!

Reese: Let me get that.

Gammy: Hi Reese
Reese: No!
Gammy: I wasn’t asking a question, just saying hi.
Reese: No hi!

Reese to Daddy: Calm down. <Said in a quiet voice, while holding her hand up in the air, then slowly lowering it down, just as he says it to her.>

A glimpse of the sassy teenage years to come perhaps?
